Hot Medical Companies For 2015

Hot Medical Companies For 2015: Enanta Pharmaceuticals Inc (ENTA)

Enanta Pharmaceuticals, Inc., incorporated on July 25, 1995, is a research and development-focused biotechnology company. The Company uses its chemistry-driven approach and drug discovery capabilities to create small molecule drugs in the infectious disease field. The Company is discovering and developing novel inhibitors designed for use against the hepatitis C virus (HCV). These inhibitors include members of the direct acting antiviral (DAA) inhibitor classes-protease (partnered with AbbVie, the former research-based pharmaceutical business of Abbott Laboratories), NS5A (partnered with Novartis) and nucleotide polymerase, as well as a host targeted antiviral (HTA) inhibitor class targeted against cyclophilin. ABT-450, discovered through its collaboration with AbbVie, is a protease inhibitor that has demonstrated in vitro potency against known resistant HCV mutants.

In Phase I studies, ABT-450 co-administered with ritonavir, a commonly used boosting agent to increase the blood concentrations of many protease inhibitors, was shown to be safe and well tolerated. Co-administration of ABT-450 with ritonavir, which it refers to together as ABT-450/r, has enabled once-daily dosing of ABT-450. Phase II studies have demonstrated the efficacy of ABT-450/r in patients with chronic HCV, and other interferon-free Phase II studies of ABT-450-containing regimens continue. AbbVie is developing a next-generation protease inhibitor discovered within the Enanta-AbbVie collaboration. EDP-239 is the NS5A inhibitor discovered by the Company. The Company also has a program to develop nucleotide inhibitors to HCV NS5B polymerase, which is another DAA mechanism considered to have a barrier to resistance. The Companys Bicyclolide antibiotic product candidate is EDP-788, which it is developing for use as an intravenous drug in the hospital setting and for oral dosing in the home setting. EDP-788 is a prodrug, which means that it is ina! ctive until it is converted in the body into an active compound. EDP-788 is a water-soluble molecule which, when administered in preclinical models, is cleanly and rapidly converted into the active compound.

The next big thing in treating hepatitis-C
The other currently experimental therapy very likely to make it onto the FDA's desk before the midpoint of 2014 is AbbVie's (NYSE: ABBV  ) direct-acting antiviral combo drug. In similar fashion to Sovaldi, this DAA-combo therapy, which includes ABT-450 from Enanta Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ENTA  ) , is running six confirmatory late-stage trials on various genotypes. There are, however, two primary differences between AbbVie's DAA-combo therapy and Sovaldi.

And lastly I'll go into healthcare, which is kind of a growth cyclical type name. It's partially defensive, partially growth. I think the more growth-oriented section of healthcare would be biotech, and right now, a very promising biotech stock is Enanta Pharmaceuticals. That's a NASDAQ stock; ticker symbol (ENTA).

Normally, such strong efficacy results would be hailed as a major achievement. However, these results are actually less impressive than those by competing drug's developed by AbbVie (NYSE: ABBV  ) , Enanta Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ENTA  ) and Gilead. Bristol-Myers' therapy also has a treatment duration double that of Gilead's drug Sovaldi for genotype 1 patients. So, while these results are impressive in their own right, the therapy's commercial prospects may be limited due to the presence of superior competitors in the market.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Alex Planes]

Originally built by Eckert and Mauchly under their own brand, UNIVAC proved so costly and time-consuming to develop that the duo sold their business to Remington-Rand -- which still operates in the computing industry today as Unisys (NYSE: UIS  ) -- before completing the project. UNIVAC was designed from the ground up for business use rather than scientific calculation, and represented the first real digital threat to IBM's (NYSE: IBM  ) punched-card tabulators, which had been the Census Bureau's preferred number-crunching tools for decades. However, their astronomically high cost -- $750,000 for the eight-ton machine and another $185,000 for the high-speed printer -- kept UNIVAC from becoming a big-business hit, even after it nailed the results of President Dwight Eisenhower's landslide 1952 election victory with only 1% of the vote recorded. That wasn't for lack of trying on Remington Rand's part:

  • [By Lauren Pollock]

Unisys Corp.(UIS) narrowed its loss in the third quarter as a decrease in costs partially offset a decline in revenue. Shares of the company, which provides information-technology services and software for commercial and government clients, fell 8.1% to $23.99 in premarket trading as its earnings and revenue came in below analysts’ expectations.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Finally, outside the Dow, Unisys (NYSE: UIS  ) saw its shares lose nearly a quarter of their value after announcing a substantial loss. Although much of the hit to earnings came from Venezuela's recent devaluation of its currency and additional pension expense, weakness in its systems-integration and technology divisions led to a big drop in revenue. As much larger competitors start to concentrate more on IT services, Unisys will struggle to find a niche it can rely on to reawaken its growth prospects.

  • [By Jake L'Ecuyer]

Unisys (NYSE: UIS) shares tumbled 12.12 percent to $25.42 on Q1 results. Unisys reported a quarterly loss of $0.74 per share on revenue of $762.0 million.

Bill Ackman continued attacks on Herbalife (HLF) and the FBI’s investigation into its business practices have hurt most stocks even remotely related to the health drink maker. Until the matter is cleared up, all of these stocks should be considered dead money. Even market darlings such as Whole Foods (WFM) and Hain Celestial Group (HAIN) are badly lagging the overall markets. While the healthy lifestyle trend continues, it seems investors have generally grown tired of it. Like all cyclical businesses, it might be some time before investor enthusiasm returns.

But what does "organic" really mean, and does the label meet consumers' expectations? Do shoppers know that the Horizon Organics brand -- darling of the urban food co-op -- belongs to decidedly conventional Dean Foods (NYSE: DF  ) ? Or that Hain Celestial (NASDAQ: HAIN  ) has been dogged recently by accusations of false organic labeling, leading to a class action lawsuit?

Best Insurance Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Below is the edited transcript of the interview on CNBC-TV18. Also watch the accompanying video.

Q: An investor can invest Rs 8000 per month. He has a time period of four years. The goal is Rs 25 lakh for his daughter's marriage. He has an insurance coverage of Rs 10,000 at premium of around Rs 1,500 per month. He and his family are covered by employer for health problems. What would your advice be?

A: Health insurance is taken care of. Life insurance is what you need to enhance. Since you already have certain amount of portfolio, you can invest the extra amount every month. As you are talking about marriage in the next three to four years, I would be a little conservative. On a conservative approach, pick up a mutual fund which puts about 20% into equity, to keep pace with inflation and rest 80% into debt.

It could be either a fund or funds with 20-80 composition or a Monthly Income Plan, which a lot of these mutual fund companies have. It would have this kind of a composition. If he keeps putting money into this on a regular basis, he would have some kind of corpus to accumulate wealth for his daughter's marriage.

After these goals, Benmosche has mentioned that the next priority is a dividend. I respectfully disagree with the notion that AIG needs to appeal to a broader group of investors, as stock buybacks done at a deep discount to intrinsic value are far more accretive than paying a dividend. Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) is a perfect example of a company that has traded at a fine valuation despite not paying a dividend, and AIG would not be doing its shareholders a favor by going the dividend route over stock buybacks at anything close to current prices. Stock buybacks make a lot of sense from a capital management standpoint in that they are easier to halt or terminate in case of a rough catastrophe year or something like that.

  • [By Omar Venerio]

The company has a current ROE of 10.94% which is higher than the industry median and the ones exhibit by Universal American Corp. (UAM), Centene (CNC) and WellPoint (WLP). In general, analysts consider ROE ratios in the 15-20% range as representing attractive levels for investment. So for investors looking those levels or more, Cigna (CI) could be the option. It is very important to understand this metric before investing and it is important to look at the trend in ROE over time.

Health insurers such as Universal American (NYSE: UAM  ) and Humana (NYSE: HUM  ) that offer supplementary Medicare insurance could be hurt if seniors decided to drop the added coverage, but I doubt the increased premiums will put a major dent in seniors' budgets. Retirees making more than $85,000 per year will have to pay about $250 more per year than they do right now. Any losses will be more than be made up for by theCenters for Medicare and Medicaid Services' decision this month to reverse its previously announced cuts to reimbursement rates.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Adrian Day]

Adrian Day: Yes, yes, I like the concept of looking up the secondary plays. I mean, you know we own Altius (ALS) for example, rather than Alderon (ADV). Altius owns 30% of Alderon, that is more diversified, has a better balance sheet. If Alderon succeeds, Atius will succeed.
